Colombia vs Denmark Grading System

Enter your grade to convert between 0–5 Scale (3.0 to pass) and 7-Step Scale (-3 to 12)

What kind of grade is this?

A Bachelor's / first-degree grade — for graduate (Master's) admission or employment

Got a school-leaving qualification instead — A-levels, Class 12, WASSCE, the Abitur? Here's what actually happens to those.

How does the Colombia grading system work?

How does the Denmark grading system work?

Denmark uses a 7-step scale with only these valid values: -3, 0, 2, 4, 7, 10, 12. No values in between exist. Minimum pass is 2.

Do Colombia and Denmark mark to the same standard?

No — and it is the difference in marking culture, not the arithmetic, that makes a direct comparison mislead. Here is how each country actually uses its own scale.

What a good grade means in Colombia

With only two points between the pass mark and the ceiling, the Colombian scale is one of the most compressed in use anywhere, and proportional conversion distorts it badly — a 4.0 is not "80%", it is a strong result well above the passing threshold. Marks above 4.5 are uncommon, so an average in the low 4s already places a student well within their cohort. Send the grading key, because the scale's range is not self-evident from the number alone.

What a good grade means in Denmark

A 12 is defined as an excellent performance with no or only insignificant weaknesses, and it is awarded sparingly — the scale was explicitly designed to stop grade inflation by making the top grade demanding and the steps between grades wide. A 10 is a very good result, and a 7 is a solid one that a US reader would wrongly dismiss as a C. Because the values are discrete and unevenly spaced, converting a Danish average by proportion produces a number that means nothing.

Will a grade from Colombia get you into Denmark?

We do not yet hold published entry requirements for Denmark, so we do not compare your grade against a bar we cannot cite. The conversion above still tells you how your result reads in Denmark terms.

Excelente (4.5–5.0) → approximately 4.0 GPA.

What goes wrong converting grades from Colombia to Denmark?

The pass marks differ — 3.0 in Colombia against 2 in Denmark — so the two scales have different usable ranges and the middle of one is not the middle of the other.

Mistakes specific to Colombia grades

  • Converting proportionally to a percentage. With a usable range of 3.0 to 5.0, that arithmetic misrepresents the result substantially.
  • Assuming every Colombian university uses the 0–5 scale. A minority use 0–10 or 0–100, and the number alone will not tell you which.
  • Treating small decimals as noise. On a two-point usable range, 0.3 is a meaningful difference.

What should you do next, applying from Colombia to Denmark?

  1. Check the course, not the country. Entry requirements are set per programme and revised every cycle. We hold no published national bar for this destination, so the course page is the only figure that binds.
  2. Check whether an evaluation is even required. Unlike the US and Canada, Denmark universities commonly assess foreign transcripts in-house. Confirm on the course page before paying for a report you may not need.
  3. Get your documents moving early. Universities normally require your transcript sent directly by your institution rather than as a copy from you, which takes longer than most applicants expect.

What do these grading terms mean?

Percentage scale
A 0–100 marking scale — but the numbers are not comparable across countries: 70% is an outstanding result in the UK and a modest one in India.
GPA (Grade Point Average)
The US way of expressing an overall grade, on a 0–4.0 scale where 4.0 is the top — so a 4.0 is roughly what a 90–100% or a First Class would be elsewhere.
Transcript
The official document from your university listing every subject you took and the grade you got — not the same as your degree certificate, and universities abroad want both.
Credential evaluation
A paid report from an approved company that restates your foreign qualification in local terms, which many US and Canadian universities require before they will assess you.
Credits / credit hours
A measure of how much a subject counts toward your degree — bigger subjects carry more credits and pull your average further.

Frequently asked questions

What is a 4.5 from Colombia on Denmark's scale?

Approximately 10–12 / 12 — Excellent (12). That is a range rather than a single number because grade conversion is an estimate, and the range widens where either country's data is less certain. Enter your own grade in the converter above for your figure.
