Do Denmark and Ghana mark to the same standard?

No โ€” and it is the difference in marking culture, not the arithmetic, that makes a direct comparison mislead. Here is how each country actually uses its own scale.

What a good grade means in Denmark

A 12 is defined as an excellent performance with no or only insignificant weaknesses, and it is awarded sparingly โ€” the scale was explicitly designed to stop grade inflation by making the top grade demanding and the steps between grades wide. A 10 is a very good result, and a 7 is a solid one that a US reader would wrongly dismiss as a C. Because the values are discrete and unevenly spaced, converting a Danish average by proportion produces a number that means nothing.

What a good grade means in Ghana

Ghanaian marking is demanding and the classifications carry real weight: a First Class at 70% CWA is uncommon, and a realistic top weighted average sits in the low-to-mid 80s rather than near 100. Because the class boundaries follow the British pattern, a Ghanaian Second Class Upper translates cleanly into the 2:1 that UK and Irish master's programmes ask for โ€” which is a much better position than the percentage alone suggests to anyone used to American marking.

Will a grade from Denmark get you into Ghana?

We do not yet hold published entry requirements for Ghana, so we do not compare your grade against a bar we cannot cite. The conversion above still tells you how your result reads in Ghana terms.

Danish 12 โ†’ 4.0 GPA. 10 โ†’ approximately 3.5. 7 โ†’ approximately 3.0.

What goes wrong converting grades from Denmark to Ghana?

Ghana rarely awards near the top of its own scale โ€” 85 is realistically the ceiling rather than 100 โ€” so a converted result will look lower than you expect even when it is strong.

Mistakes specific to Denmark grades

  • Treating the seven-point scale as continuous. There is no 8 or 9, so averages and interpolations misrepresent the result.
  • Reading a 7 as mediocre. It maps to an ECTS C, which describes good work rather than a barely adequate performance.
  • Assuming 02 is a typo. It is the minimum pass grade, written with the leading zero.

What should you do next, applying from Denmark to Ghana?

  1. Check the course, not the country. Entry requirements are set per programme and revised every cycle. We hold no published national bar for this destination, so the course page is the only figure that binds.
  2. Check whether an evaluation is even required. Unlike the US and Canada, Ghana universities commonly assess foreign transcripts in-house. Confirm on the course page before paying for a report you may not need.
  3. Get your documents moving early. Universities normally require your transcript sent directly by your institution rather than as a copy from you, which takes longer than most applicants expect.
  4. Read both systems in full. How Denmark grading works ยท How Ghana grading works

What do these grading terms mean?

GPA (Grade Point Average)
The US way of expressing an overall grade, on a 0โ€“4.0 scale where 4.0 is the top โ€” so a 4.0 is roughly what a 90โ€“100% or a First Class would be elsewhere.
Percentage scale
A 0โ€“100 marking scale โ€” but the numbers are not comparable across countries: 70% is an outstanding result in the UK and a modest one in India.
Credits / credit hours
A measure of how much a subject counts toward your degree โ€” bigger subjects carry more credits and pull your average further.
Transcript
The official document from your university listing every subject you took and the grade you got โ€” not the same as your degree certificate, and universities abroad want both.
CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average)
The same idea as a GPA but covering your whole degree rather than one term โ€” the scale differs by country (India 10, Nigeria 5.0, Pakistan 4.0), so the number alone means nothing without its scale.
Degree classification
A named band your final result falls into โ€” First Class, 2:1, Distinction โ€” used across the UK, Ireland, Nigeria, India and much of the Commonwealth instead of a single number.

Frequently asked questions

What is a 12 from Denmark on Ghana's scale?

Approximately 76โ€“85 / 100 โ€” First Class Honours. That is a range rather than a single number because grade conversion is an estimate, and the range widens where either country's data is less certain. Enter your own grade in the converter above for your figure.
