Do Denmark and Singapore mark to the same standard?
No β and it is the difference in marking culture, not the arithmetic, that makes a direct comparison mislead. Here is how each country actually uses its own scale.
What a good grade means in Denmark
A 12 is defined as an excellent performance with no or only insignificant weaknesses, and it is awarded sparingly β the scale was explicitly designed to stop grade inflation by making the top grade demanding and the steps between grades wide. A 10 is a very good result, and a 7 is a solid one that a US reader would wrongly dismiss as a C. Because the values are discrete and unevenly spaced, converting a Danish average by proportion produces a number that means nothing.
What a good grade means in Singapore
Singaporean degrees are highly regarded internationally, and the grading is demanding: NUS and NTU run bell-curve moderation, so grades reflect standing within a strong cohort rather than an absolute mark. That makes a CAP of 4.0 a genuinely good result even though, mapped to US letters, it sits at a B+ rather than an A. The honours class is the signal to lead with abroad, because Highest Distinction and Distinction are understood in Commonwealth terms in a way a raw 5.0-scale number is not.
Will a grade from Denmark get you into Singapore?
Singapore universities typically ask for 3.50 / 5 for a taught master's β a one-to-two-year postgraduate degree made mostly of classes. On Denmark's scale that is roughly 4β7 / 12 (Good (7)). Singapore states this as an honours class rather than a CAP figure β Honours (Merit) / Second Class and above, which begins at 3.5 on the 5.0 CAP scale modelled here. NTU's published bar is looser still ("at least a good Bachelor degree"). Both universities stress that meeting the minimum does not imply admission, because selection is competitive against the rest of the applicant pool.

Mistakes specific to Denmark grades
- Treating the seven-point scale as continuous. There is no 8 or 9, so averages and interpolations misrepresent the result.
- Reading a 7 as mediocre. It maps to an ECTS C, which describes good work rather than a barely adequate performance.
- Assuming 02 is a typo. It is the minimum pass grade, written with the leading zero.
What should you do next, applying from Denmark to Singapore?
- Check the course, not the country. Entry requirements are set per programme and revised every cycle. The 3.50 / 5 above is the typical bar, not a guarantee β selective courses ask for more.
- Check whether an evaluation is even required. Unlike the US and Canada, Singapore universities commonly assess foreign transcripts in-house. Confirm on the course page before paying for a report you may not need.
- Get your documents moving early. Universities normally require your transcript sent directly by your institution rather than as a copy from you, which takes longer than most applicants expect.

What do these grading terms mean?
- GPA (Grade Point Average)
- The US way of expressing an overall grade, on a 0β4.0 scale where 4.0 is the top β so a 4.0 is roughly what a 90β100% or a First Class would be elsewhere.
- Percentage scale
- A 0β100 marking scale β but the numbers are not comparable across countries: 70% is an outstanding result in the UK and a modest one in India.
- Credits / credit hours
- A measure of how much a subject counts toward your degree β bigger subjects carry more credits and pull your average further.
- Transcript
- The official document from your university listing every subject you took and the grade you got β not the same as your degree certificate, and universities abroad want both.
- CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average)
- The same idea as a GPA but covering your whole degree rather than one term β the scale differs by country (India 10, Nigeria 5.0, Pakistan 4.0), so the number alone means nothing without its scale.
- Degree classification
- A named band your final result falls into β First Class, 2:1, Distinction β used across the UK, Ireland, Nigeria, India and much of the Commonwealth instead of a single number.
Frequently asked questions
What is a 12 from Denmark on Singapore's scale?
Approximately 4.67β5.00 / 5 β Honours (Highest Distinction). That is a range rather than a single number because grade conversion is an estimate, and the range widens where either country's data is less certain. Enter your own grade in the converter above for your figure.
Can you study a master's in Singapore with a degree from Denmark?
Yes β universities in Singapore typically ask for 3.50 / 5 on their own scale. What grade do you need in Denmark for a master's in Singapore?
About 4β7 / 12 β Good (7). That is Singapore's published bar of 3.50 / 5 restated on Denmark's scale, so it is a conversion of a conversion and is shown as a range for that reason. Competitive courses ask above the published minimum, so treat it as the floor rather than the target.
