A First Class is genuinely rare, and Cambridge's own equivalence table treats a Nigerian First (CGPA 4.5/5, or 70%) as matching a UK First — independent confirmation from a named institution that the classification is understood abroad. A 2:1 is a solid, competitive result for master's applications across the UK, Ireland and Australia, and you should present it as such rather than apologising for the number.

What do these grading terms mean?

Honours degree
