What goes wrong converting grades from Russia to South Africa?

South Africa rarely awards near the top of its own scale — 85 is realistically the ceiling rather than 100 — so a converted result will look lower than you expect even when it is strong.

Mistakes specific to Russia grades

• Converting the five-point scale proportionally. With three passing values, a 4 is a good grade and not the 80% that arithmetic suggests.
• Treating zachyot entries as missing grades. They are pass or fail credits and a normal part of the Russian record.
• Omitting the red diploma. It is the main way to distinguish an outstanding Russian degree, and the raw grades will not do it for you.
