Bangladeshi marking sits between the Indian and the US pattern: an A+ requires 80%, which is demanding by US standards but reachable, and a CGPA above 3.5 on the 4.0 scale is a genuinely strong result. Because two scales circulate, the most valuable thing you can do is state yours explicitly on every application — more Bangladeshi applications are misread for that reason than for anything to do with the grades themselves.

The presence of three parallel scales on one transcript is the defining feature and the main source of error: a student may quote a 4 (traditional), a 'B' (ECTS) and an 82 (100-point) that all describe the same performance. What do these grading terms mean?

GPA (Grade Point Average)

The US way of expressing an overall grade, on a 0–4.0 scale where 4.0 is the top — so a 4.0 is roughly what a 90–100% or a First Class would be elsewhere.

CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average)

The same idea as a GPA but covering your whole degree rather than one term — the scale differs by country (India 10, Nigeria 5.0, Pakistan 4.0), so the number alone means nothing without its scale.

Percentage scale
