How does the Turkey grading system work?
Most Turkish universities use a 4.0 GPA scale under YÖK (Higher Education Council) framework.
Turkish universities grade on a 4.0 GPA — a grade point average on the American model — with letter grades from AA at the top through BA, BB, CB, CC and down to FF for a fail.
Most institutions also report a 100-point score, and Scholaro treats the percentage as the more commonly cited of the two, so a Turkish transcript usually carries both.
The letter grades are unusual to foreign eyes because of the doubled letters: AA is the top grade, not an A, and BA sits between AA and BB.

Turkish bachelor's degrees run four years, which meets the 16-year expectation of US graduate schools. Many programmes include a preparatory year of English before the degree proper, which lengthens the transcript and is worth explaining where the total looks unusual.
What do people get wrong about grades from Turkey?
- Assuming AA is a typo for A. It is the top Turkish letter grade, and BA is the one below it rather than a separate subject code.
- Reading the 100-point score as a US percentage. Turkish percentage marking is stricter, so a 75 is stronger than it looks.
- Quoting the GPA and percentage as if they were independent results. They describe the same performance twice.
What grade do you need to study abroad from Turkey?
Each destination below publishes its own typical entry requirement for a taught master's — a one-to-two-year postgraduate degree made mostly of classes. The last column restates that bar in Turkey's own grading terms, so you can hold it against your actual transcript instead of converting in your head.

Only destinations whose entry requirement we have read and cited appear here. Several countries publish no numeric bar at all — France admits on the dossier, Japan by entrance examination — and others we simply have not researched yet. An absent row never means “no requirement”.

What do these grading terms mean?
- GPA (Grade Point Average)
- The US way of expressing an overall grade, on a 0–4.0 scale where 4.0 is the top — so a 4.0 is roughly what a 90–100% or a First Class would be elsewhere.
- Percentage scale
- A 0–100 marking scale — but the numbers are not comparable across countries: 70% is an outstanding result in the UK and a modest one in India.
- Transcript
- The official document from your university listing every subject you took and the grade you got — not the same as your degree certificate, and universities abroad want both.
- Credential evaluation
- A paid report from an approved company that restates your foreign qualification in local terms, which many US and Canadian universities require before they will assess you.
